According to a screenshot shared by user X, the latest Notepad application has a hidden menu featuring a new function called “Cowriter.” This feature employs AI to modify, abbreviate, or expand text, and can also alter the format of text files.

Although it appears that the feature is currently unavailable, this suggests that Microsoft does plan to integrate AI into the Notepad on Windows 11 shortly. Similar to adding artificial intelligence in drawing, the Notepad AI feature may use an online service requiring a Microsoft account for access.

A homepage image was discovered in the program files of Notepad, showcasing the appearance of the Cowriter interface, indicating that Microsoft is on the verge of officially announcing this feature. Since the release of Windows 11, Microsoft has made numerous improvements to Notepad, including a new interface, tabs, dark mode, and many other features.

Microsoft is currently working on the next major Windows operating system update, codenamed Hudson Valley. This update is expected to focus primarily on next-gen AI features, including AI-based Windows search and user history/timeline features, making it easier to find previously opened applications, files, and web pages. Additionally, there is a new feature called “Super Resolution” that uses AI to enhance the resolution of video games and more.

Last week, Microsoft announced that 2024 would be the AI PC era, revealing that upcoming Windows computers will come equipped with a dedicated Copilot button on the keyboard. After a year of implementing artificial intelligence in Office and other online services, Microsoft has also begun integrating AI into Windows.

It remains uncertain whether these AI features on Windows will be accessible in China. If not available domestically, users will have to watch with envy.
