Silicon Motion, a major NAND Flash controller IC manufacturer, announced the launch of the industry’s fastest single-chip portable SSD controller IC with a transfer speed of up to 20Gbps and support for up to 8TB of storage capacity. This is expected to be applied in AI smartphones, high-performance multimedia devices, or gaming consoles in the future. Samples are currently being sent to multiple customers, with mass production expected in mid-2024.
As the number of AI-supported devices increases, high-capacity and high-performance storage device solutions are becoming increasingly important to consumers.
Silicon Motion stated that the newly launched controller IC provides an ideal solution for portable SSDs, offering cost-effective, high-capacity, and high-performance features for these applications.
The SM2322 supports a data transfer rate of up to 20Gbps via the USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 interface and features a fully integrated hardware and software solution. It achieves peak sequential read and write speeds of 2,100MB/s and 2,000MB/s respectively, and supports up to 8TB of storage capacity. Using Silicon Motion’s proprietary NANDXtend 4KB LDPC error correction technology enhances the endurance and data retention capability of 3D TLC/QLC NAND flash. With SRAM ECC and end-to-end data path protection, it ensures comprehensive data integrity. Additionally, the SM2322 offers AES 256-bit encryption, fingerprint security, and full compliance with the Trusted Computing Group (TCG) Opal specification to meet high-security standards, providing the highest level of data security.
The new product supports ProRes format and is compatible with the MFi standard for iPhone users, as well as with Windows, Android OS, and macOS. It will be an ideal solution for AI smartphone users, high-definition content creators, and gaming enthusiasts who require high-capacity and high-performance portable storage devices.
In addition, We (Yunze Technology Limited and DiskMFR) will soon launch portable SSDs equipped with SM2322 controller. Please stay tuned.
