Silicon Motion Unveils 128TB PCIe 5.0 SSD with SM8366

On March 12, 2025, the CFMS2025 China Flash Memory Summit was grandly held in Shenzhen under the theme “Storage Landscape · Value Reshaping,” attracting over a thousand representatives from global semiconductor manufacturers, terminal brands, industry experts, and investment institutions. At the event, Silicon Motion showcased several breakthrough technologies and products, including the first public demonstration of a 128TB enterprise SSD engineering sample.

Silicon Motion’s 128TB enterprise SSD is powered by the SM8366 controller, supporting PCIe 5.0 x4 channels and the NVMe 2.0 standard, integrating multiple innovative technologies:

  • Extreme Capacity – Utilizing a groundbreaking storage architecture and support for high-capacity QLC NAND, the drive achieves a single-unit capacity of 128TB, more than four times that of mainstream enterprise SSDs, meeting the high-density storage demands of large-scale data centers.
  • Performance Breakthrough – Featuring Silicon Motion’s patented PerformaShape technology, it supports dynamic QoS configuration, achieving up to 95% I/O consistency in mixed read-write scenarios, significantly enhancing AI training efficiency.
  • Enhanced Reliability – Equipped with NANDXtend ECC technology and AI-driven error correction algorithms, it enhances the endurance of QLC NAND to enterprise-grade standards, providing robust long-term data storage reliability.

Silicon Motion stated that the launch of this product marks a new era in its enterprise storage solutions, laying the foundation for “high capacity, high performance, and high reliability” storage in future applications such as AI training, autonomous driving, and the metaverse.
