NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 graphics cards will be the flagship products of the next-generation Blackwell series, with the RTX 5080 set to feature the fastest DRAM solution on the market upon release.
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 GPU is expected to use the GB203 GPU core and will come equipped with 16GB of GDDR7 memory, running at speeds of up to 32Gbps, which is 4Gbps faster than the 28Gbps chips used in the GeForce RTX 5090. This graphics card will feature a 256-bit wide bus interface, allowing for a memory bandwidth of 1TB/s.
In comparison, the RTX 4080 series has a peak bandwidth of 736GB/s, using 23Gbps GDDR6X memory. While G6X is already powerful, GDDR7 will represent a technological leap, especially in GPUs with narrower bus widths, providing even higher bandwidth.
It’s worth noting that the 32Gbps speed will not apply to the entire series initially, as only the RTX 5080 will adopt it first. However, NVIDIA may later upgrade the entire series to faster G7 memory and increase memory capacity.
According to previous information, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 will be based on the PG144/147-SKU45 PCB and will use the GB203-400-A1 GPU core. This card will utilize the full GB203 core, equipped with 84 SM units and 10,752 cores, which is 51% fewer cores than the RTX 5090.
In comparison, the core count difference between the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 is 40%, suggesting an even more notable performance gap between the two. The RTX 5080’s power rating is 400W TBP, a 25% increase in power cap, though actual power usage may vary.
Additionally, NVIDIA may use 3GB GDDR7 memory modules, enabling the GeForce RTX 5080 to support up to 24GB of video memory. This would significantly enhance the experience for gamers and professional users, especially those requiring extra memory for content creation, AI-intensive tasks, or running large games smoothly at higher resolutions.
