Nintendo Switch 2 Teardown Reveals Key Suppliers by iFixit

Recently, Nintendo’s latest gaming console, the Switch 2, officially went on sale in major markets such as Japan and the United States. According to a teardown report by iFixit and related media coverage, it features a custom processor by NVIDIA, memory chips from SK Hynix, and chips supplied by several Taiwanese manufacturers including MediaTek, Realtek, Weltrend, and Macronix.

Specifically, the Switch 2’s main processor is custom-designed by NVIDIA and manufactured by Samsung using an 8nm process. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang stated before the release that the new console is ten times more powerful than its predecessor, drawing significant attention ahead of the launch.

In a recent earnings call, Huang said the new Switch 2 integrates NVIDIA’s latest neural rendering and AI technology (DLSS), effectively bringing RTX graphics card capabilities into the Switch 2, which greatly boosts overall performance by tenfold and offers new features such as multi-frame generation and enhanced super resolution.

Huang emphasized that with the support of NVIDIA’s technology, the Switch 2 is essentially a mini AI computer, delivering a huge leap in gaming performance for millions of players worldwide and offering a more comprehensive gaming experience.

The teardown report also shows that key components of the Switch 2 include Bluetooth and WiFi chips supplied by MediaTek, audio chips by Realtek, and USB PD power management chips by Weltrend Electronics.

Industry insiders noted that based on past collaboration experiences, gaming console clients tend to adjust their procurement based on seasonal demand, and Switch 2 orders are expected to follow a similar pattern.

Nintendo’s previous-generation Switch was released in 2017, and the launch of a new console after eight years has raised market expectations that it could bring years of sustained business to the supply chain. Industry sources believe that based on current Switch 2 sales performance, Nintendo has likely already placed additional orders with the supply chain, and the strong sales period may extend from the second quarter through the fourth quarter, including the Christmas season in Europe and the U.S.

According to Nintendo’s announcement, the Switch 2 is priced at $449.99 in the U.S., more than one-third higher than the first-generation Switch, while the Japan-exclusive version is cheaper, priced at 49,980 yen. In addition, new Switch 2 games are slightly more expensive than existing Switch titles, and it is expected that game software will become a major source of profit for the Switch 2 going forward.
