With the widespread adoption of generative AI, Apple has begun enhancing the default iPhone applications through large language models (LLMs).
Reports indicate that insiders have shared some information about Apple’s internal AI testing environment. Generally, several default iPhone apps will receive significant AI-related upgrades, including the Safari browser, Spotlight Search, and the Siri smart assistant.
It has been revealed that generating text summaries using AI is a key feature being tested for Safari. This feature analyzes keywords and phrases in web pages and documents to create summaries that contain only the most important information for users to read quickly.
The built-in AI model, “Ajax,” will also extract keywords and phrases from texts and analyze all relevant information, such as companies, people, and places.
Ultimately, the model will provide concise text summaries and use these summaries to respond with more coherent answers, and Siri will receive similar updates.
Unlike ChatGPT, however, the core value of this feature lies in its ability to generate text offline, without “cloud processing.” Reports suggest that Apple has been exploring this area for over a year.
