Intel Partners with TSMC for 2nm PC Processor Development

April 23 news, according to media reports, Intel has joined the first batch of customers for TSMC’s 2nm process and plans to use it for the production of the next generation of PC processors. Currently, relevant preparations are underway at TSMC’s Hsinchu factory to ensure subsequent yield adjustments.

TSMC plans to begin mass production of the 2nm process in the second half of the year, and related customers are gradually emerging. Previously, AMD had announced orders for TSMC’s 2nm process.

The report states that Intel and TSMC are currently collaborating on only one product for the 2nm process, which is likely the computing chip of Intel’s Nova Lake PC processor to be released next year.

Regarding Intel’s involvement, TSMC stated that it does not comment on market rumors and does not comment on specific customer business. Intel has also not made any comment on the relevant news.

However, industry insiders are optimistic that the continued influx of 2nm customer orders will help TSMC maintain growth in performance in the second half of the year.

Previously, Intel was already one of TSMC’s main customers for advanced processes. Last year, Intel entrusted TSMC with the production of the key computing chip blocks (Compute tile) for two processors, Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake.

The computing chip blocks are produced using TSMC’s N3B process, GPU chip blocks are produced using TSMC’s N5P process, and the SoC and I/O chip blocks are produced using TSMC’s N6 process.
