Previously, reports indicated that Intel began investigating the gaming stability issues of its 13th and 14th generation Core processors, primarily focusing on high-end processors such as the Intel Core i9-13900K/14900K. These issues are notably more pronounced in games using the Unreal Engine, often displaying errors like “insufficient VRAM,” instability, or random crashes.
Recently, ASUS released a new BIOS version for its Z790 series motherboards, introducing a feature called “Intel Baseline Profile,” which resets all settings to Intel’s recommended default settings. Simply put, this limits power consumption to enhance system stability during gaming, which undoubtedly impacts the processor performance to some extent.
According to user shares, the new configuration profile enforces all restrictions, including SVID behavior which will utilize Intel’s fail-safe options, and both IA CEP and SA CEP will be enabled. After activating this option, the i9-14900K processor’s score in the Cinebench R23 multicore test dropped from 40,998 to 35,851, a decrease of about 12.6%.
Although Intel has not yet provided any public statement or clear solution to this issue, ASUS’s move to update specific features after a long time somewhat reflects the underlying problem.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney expressed his gratitude towards ASUS for adding the new option, as many developers using the Unreal Engine have long been troubled by these stability issues without a satisfactory resolution.
Previously, numerous users reported experiencing game crashes, stuttering, black screens, and incomplete support for RTX HDR when using the GeForce Game Ready 552.12 WHQL driver. In response to user inquiries, NVIDIA officially attributed some of these issues to the use of 13th and 14th-generation Intel Core processors.
