November 10 news, according to media reports, Android 15 will introduce true variable refresh rate (ARR) for the first time. This feature dynamically adjusts the refresh rate based on screen content, effectively reducing power consumption and enhancing the user experience.
Currently, most Android phones support refresh rates higher than 60Hz. While many manufacturers have long advertised variable refresh rates, these could only switch between a few fixed refresh rates such as 60Hz, 90Hz, or 120Hz, and the Android system had not truly supported this technology until now.
Android 15’s ARR feature provides a unified method allowing devices to adjust the refresh rate within the same display mode.
Google stated that the ARR feature will allow devices to “operate at a rate lower than their maximum refresh rate, with transitions to higher speeds occurring only when critical to user experience, thus minimizing unnecessary power consumption.”
At the same time, ARR improves performance by eliminating the need to change display modes, which Google claims is a known cause of stuttering. This feature will help enhance the experience for users when watching videos or playing games on their phones.
