AMD's Assurance AM5 Interface Endures Till 2025

AMD Vice President and General Manager of Client Channel Business, David McAfee, recently reiterated the long-term commitment to the AM5 interface platform.

Intel will launch the new generation Arrow Lake processor next year, paired with the 800 series chipset. The package interface will again be changed to LGA1851, continuing the trend of changing interfaces every two generations.

AMD has been more conscientious in this regard. AM4 is considered a miracle in processor history. From 2017 to now, it has been six years, experiencing five generations of CPU architecture, and four generations of manufacturing processes, covering over 125 processors and 500 motherboards, and continues to introduce new products.

The Ryzen 7000 series with Zen4 architecture will begin to switch to the AM5 interface. The official commitment is to continue at least until 2025, or even longer.

When asked if there would be any changes in the lifespan of the AM5 interface, David McAfee firmly stated, ‘Our commitment remains unchanged!’

He further pointed out, ‘We certainly understand that the long lifespan of AM4 is the biggest contributor to Ryzen’s success. When contemplating the future path, transitioning to the next-generation interface is a matter we must take extremely seriously. AMD is well aware of the impact of interface changes.

He emphasized that AMD would do everything possible to use the AM5 interface for as long as possible, firmly committing to at least until 2025, and beyond that, it will depend on the situation and how long it can be used.

Perhaps, AMD will switch to AM6 only when DDR6 memory becomes available?
