Fashion Meets Tech: Graphics Card Bag Costs $1000+

According to foreign media reports, a website called GPU Purses is currently selling a luxury item named the GT 730 Fan Handbag for $1,024.

This transparent plastic handbag with gold trim contains an old Nvidia GT 730 encased in resin inside, and a Gigabyte-branded fan attached to the exterior.

The GT 730 was launched in 2014 with a market price of 399 to 499 CNY. Currently, a brand-new GT 730 graphics card costs around 280 yuan, and second-hand ones can be found for about 120 CNY.

GPU Purses states: “This handbag features a rotatable external cooling fan and an Nvidia GT 730 motherboard, with options for a long or short chain, suitable for holding a phone.” “Additionally, this handbag will be a limited edition, and we will produce about 10 more in the coming weeks.”

However, if we were to make such a handbag ourselves, even with purchasing a brand-new GT 730 GPU and other materials, the cost would not exceed 500 CNY.

Of course, we cannot underestimate the premium that the word “fashion” adds to the product. It’s well known that anything linked to fashion can drive the price to unreasonable levels.

The GPU Purses store page proudly labels itself as “the fastest fashion” and also offers an Nvidia H100 wallet for $65,536, which may contain a real H100 GPU. Although there are no pictures of the H100 product, the seller describes it as “a wallet with the rare gpt-4 training GPU.”

Interestingly, GPU Purses’ pricing follows powers of 2, with the GT 730 handbag priced at 2^10 and the H100 at 2^16.

While the price and packaging of the GT 730 handbag may be a first for the fusion of fashion and computer hardware, this is not the first time we have seen computer components used as fashion accessories.

As early as the 1990s, there were CPU keychains, but they typically appeared in the bags of PC enthusiasts rather than being sold as luxury fashion accessories.
