June 24th news: According to media reports, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang’s strict control over the allocation and installation of chips has ultimately led to dissatisfaction from Microsoft.
Jensen Huang has publicly stated that in the case of limited chip supply, NVIDIA will decide the allocation method of the chips to prevent companies from hoarding.
However, NVIDIA further intervened in the installation methods of enterprise data center chips, which directly affected Microsoft’s interests, leading to a stalemate between the two parties.
The core of the dispute lies in NVIDIA’s recent promotion of the new generation flagship chip GB200, which is designed for server racks.
NVIDIA wanted to install the chips in their own way, which would limit Microsoft’s ability to use other AI chips. This approach caused strong opposition from Microsoft.
According to sources, this dispute has lasted for several months and was severe enough to be reported to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. Eventually, in the tug-of-war between the two parties, NVIDIA chose to compromise, allowing Microsoft to freely design its own server architecture.
