Latest News on Feb.5th, 2024, NVIDIA launched a compliant special edition RTX 4090D for the Chinese market, but it is essentially a “castrated version” and not cheap. The real gamers still favor the RTX 4090, causing almost the entire Asian market to go crazy.

The official suggested retail price of the RTX 4090 starts at $1,599, which is already expensive, but now it is outrageously more so.

According to foreign media reports, in electronic markets across Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, Vietnam, and many other places, people are frantically buying the RTX 4090, with prices soaring by as much as 60%.

Their goal is consistent: to resell it to Hong Kong or mainland China at a higher price for a huge profit.

Many retailers no longer sell the RTX 4090 alone to combat these scalpers but as part of a complete computer. However, this does not stop the frenzy; they would buy the whole computer, remove the RTX 4090, and resell it separately.

A retailer in Taipei revealed that someone bought over 20 computers pre-installed with RTX 4090s for 32,000 CNY each (around 4500 USD), amounting to over 650,000 CNY (around 9133 USD).

He believes that by reselling these RTX 4090s to mainland China, he can easily recoup the cost and earn more.

On the other hand, paying a high price for the RTX 4090 is also a reluctant choice for many.

For example, the co-founder of an AI startup in Hong Kong expressed his helplessness, saying that the U.S. ban on selling the RTX 4090 has made their business unsustainable. It’s impossible to buy through legal channels, forcing them to spend much money on the black market.

Even in the well-connected Huaqiangbei, it typically takes three to four days to get an RTX 4090.
