Google’s most advanced generative AI model series “Gemini” will be featured in Samsung’s new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S24. Google and Samsung announced this news on the afternoon of January 18th while launching the Galaxy S24.

On the Galaxy S24, Gemini (especially the mid-range model Gemini Pro, designed specifically for a series of tasks) will support Samsung’s Notes, Voice Recorder, and Keyboard applications, providing what Google calls “improved summarization capabilities.” For instance, users can record a lecture using the voice recorder and get summaries of the key parts of the lecture.
Meanwhile, Gemini Nano, a more efficient and compact model of Gemini, will enable a new feature in Google Messages called “Magic Compose.” It can create messages in styles like “exciting,” “formal,” and “lyrical” on the device, without the need for an internet connection.
Notably, the Galaxy S24 is the second Android device to run Gemini Nano, following Google’s own Pixel 8 Pro. On the Pixel 8 Pro, Nano-driven features include AI summarization in the Recorder app and suggested replies in Google’s keyboard app Gboard.
Besides Gemini, the Galaxy S24 will also benefit from Google’s Imagen 2 text-to-image model, which will support photo editing features in the Galaxy S24’s Gallery app. The “Generative Edit” feature can automatically fill in parts of a picture based on the surrounding environment.
Google also stated that Samsung will be among the first partners to test Gemini Ultra, the largest and most powerful Gemini model, which will be widely available to developers and businesses later this year. However, neither company has revealed specific applications of Gemini Ultra on the Galaxy S24 or other Samsung devices.
At the end of last year, Google mentioned that Android users could access new Gemini models through Bard, and Google’s intelligent assistant Google Assistant would also integrate with Bard on Pixel devices. Whether Galaxy S24 users will have the same expectations is currently unknown.
