With the rapid development of AI technology, people are increasingly worried that their jobs and lives will be replaced by AI. The rise of large models like DeepSeek has taken this concern to new heights. This article will explore how long human advantages can still be maintained in the age of AI and how humans can remain competitive in the AI era, becoming the masters of AI rather than being replaced by it.
After returning home for the New Year, DeepSeek became a hot topic, with AI becoming another important subject besides what to eat, drink, and do during the holiday.
When I returned to work after the holiday, a colleague asked me: What is the difference between an AI product manager and a regular product manager? What are the advantages?
I thought to myself, isn’t this the question I think about every day?
An AI product manager, compared to a regular product manager, is just someone who works with the two letters “AI.” To dive deeper, AI is essentially just a technology or business that an AI product manager needs to understand, much like a supply chain product manager must understand supply chains. It’s a matter of specialization.
If we talk about advantages, I think it’s probably about being at the forefront of trends, with potentially more opportunities in the future.
Then the colleague asked: With AI developing so quickly, what advantages do we (the ordinary workers) have?
I have to admit, when this question was suddenly raised, it actually stumped me a bit, so we opened up a discussion and brainstormed.
In my view, although AI is developing rapidly, there hasn’t been a major qualitative leap yet.
The current AI, at its core, is a program based on training with vast amounts of data, integrating various recognition capabilities and data processing algorithms. It still depends on existing data or experiences, and thus remains quite limited. (Haha, I’m just joking)
It’s still a machine, and since it’s a machine, humans definitely have an advantage. But what is that advantage?
Based on the current state of AI, I think human advantage lies in subjective creativity or initiative.
With the rise of large AI models, there’s a lot of online discourse suggesting that AI will replace humans and take away many jobs.
This is not just a scare tactic, because AI can indeed do more and more things now, and it can do them faster and better than humans.
Many repetitive tasks, and even many tasks requiring brainpower, can be replaced by AI. But when it comes to what to do, when to do it, and the final decision-making and responsibilities, it still relies on humans.
So, if humans want to keep their jobs in this AI revolution, they must upgrade their own abilities, make good use of AI, and let AI serve them, becoming the masters of AI.
Will AI replace humans in the future? Will there be a human-machine war like in sci-fi movies?
I think it’s very unlikely. The reason lies in humans themselves.
Humans are full of desires and emotions. Most human activities are driven by the desire to fulfill those needs, like working for money, arguing, or even going to war, which are all about competing for more resources and benefits to achieve a better life.
Additionally, emotions like joy, anger, sorrow, and the complex psychological needs related to the desire for power are unique to humans.
Therefore, as long as AI hasn’t reached a stage where it can develop its own desires and psychology like humans, it’s almost impossible for it to conflict with humans because without desires, it has no motivation.
However, it is possible that someone might impose their own desires onto AI for some purpose, using AI to oppose humans, but that would still be a struggle between humans themselves.
As for how long human advantages will last, no one can predict.
Unless some critical milestone events happen, AI will likely continue to evolve for quite a while in its current phase. But if such events occur, it could be tomorrow, the day after, or next year, and AI could rapidly transition from weak AI to strong AI or even superintelligent AI.
Human friends, please stay tuned.
