According to Semiconductor Related-Media News, the strained supply situation in the storage market continues to escalate, and the NAND flash shortage is trending toward becoming a long-term and comprehensive issue.
The surge in AI and enterprise-level storage demand is consuming a significant portion of the production capacity, leading to severe shortages in consumer-grade products.
Supply chain sources indicate that due to the insufficient allocation of NAND chips and rapidly rising costs, complete machine manufacturers (OEMs) are readjusting the storage configurations for their new products in 2026.
Higher-capacity SSDs require more NAND chips, and the current capacity is heavily flowing into areas like AI servers and data centers, rapidly reducing the quantity that can be allocated to the consumer electronics market.
To control costs, multiple OEM manufacturers plan to reduce the specifications of new products in 2026 to maintain stable pricing for the complete device. For example, they might reduce the originally planned 512GB SSD to 256GB, and the 1TB to 512GB.
Industry insiders point out that the rush to secure goods since the fourth quarter of this year is the most severe in the past decade, even suggesting that the current situation is no longer a short-term shortage but a sustained shortage year.
Module manufacturers generally only have inventory to last until the first quarter of 2026, and it is anticipated that a situation of no available stock for delivery may occur after the second quarter of 2026.
Module manufacturers stated that some original manufacturers have recently increased their quotes by as much as 50%. To mitigate risk, they are adopting floating quotes based on market conditions when taking orders.
Insiders admit that although there are many orders, accepting them at a fixed price could instead lead to greater losses the more they produce.
